More information on Banned Books
Starting in 2010, FTRF initiated the Judith Krug Fund Banned Books Week event grants project to disburse grants to organizations to assist them in staging "Read-Outs" or other events during Banned Books Week. A Banned Books Week Read-Out is an event at which people gather to read from books that have been banned or challenged over the years, in order to celebrate the freedom to read. Judith was a co-founder of Banned Books Week. (Judith F. Krug Memorial Fund)
- FTRF (Freedom to Read Foundation is working with Library and Information Science (LIS) professors to develop online intellectual freedom education for LIS students and library professionals focused on intellectual freedom issues.

The American Library Association condemns censorship and works to ensure free access to information. Every year, the Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) compiles a list of the Top 10 Most Challenged Books in order to inform the public about censorship in libraries and schools. The lists are based on information from media stories and voluntary reports sent to OIF from communities across the U.S. The Top 10 lists are only a snapshot of book challenges. Surveys indicate that 82-97% of book challenges – documented requests to remove materials from schools or libraries – remain unreported and receive no media (Office for Intellectual Freedom).
